The maximum number of listed companies in which an individual can serve as a director should not be more than seven, proposed the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) to the ministry of corporate affairs (MCA). The proposal came in the light of ICSI view that a director needs to spend enough time to understand a company if he is to be involved in the decision-making process. At present, a person can hold the directorship of 15 listed companies.
CA. Roy was born on 4th October, 1963 and became the youngest President of the ICAI in the year 1998-99 at the age of 34. He was elected to the Central Council for the first time for the term 1995-98 and was elected as the Vice President in the first term itself. He served the Council for two terms from 1995 to 2001. Prior to that, he was elected to the Eastern India Regional Council for the term 1992-95. During his tenure in the EIRC which he served for one term, he served as its Secretary, Vice Chairman and Chairman.
New Delhi: Accounting regulator, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), is planning to introduce a three-month mandatory training course for its students who pass the chartered accountancy and accounting technician examination every year. This would mean that a student after qualifying three year chartered accountancy course and one year accounting technician course will have to undergo an additional three months training programme.

This stark revelation comes close on the heels of the involvement of the two Jamshedpur-based chartered accountancy firms of Naredi and Ashok Kedia in the now infamous Koda scam.
The Institute’s attention has been drawn today to an SMS purportedly sent from a code source viz. `TM-ICAI ELC’ which tends to give an impression that the same has linkage to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and its election in an abbreviated form. It has also been brought to our notice that the concerned message has reportedly been sent to all the members of a particular region.
During the last few days, the number of requests to intervene and bring halt to the issuance of SMSs and emails to voters at large has been on the increase. The general complaint of the voters is that the receipt of enormous mails and SMSs – many a time repeated mails from the same persons causes disturbances to their professional as well as personal life.
