The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), through its notification dated 13 April 2026, ordered the removal of a chartered accountant’s name from the Register of Members for one year following findings of professional and other misconduct under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949. The Disciplinary Committee concluded that the member was guilty under relevant provisions of the Second and First Schedules and imposed the penalty after granting an opportunity of being heard. The member challenged the decision before the Appellate Authority, which upheld the disciplinary order in April 2023. Subsequently, a writ petition was filed before the Bombay High Court, but it was dismissed in January 2026 due to non-prosecution. Consequently, ICAI enforced the disciplinary action under Section 20(2) and Regulation 18, making the removal effective from 15 April 2026. The case highlights strict enforcement of professional ethics and the finality of disciplinary proceedings when appellate remedies fail or are not pursued diligently.
