Management Accounting Research Foundation of ICWAI (ICWAI-MARF) has been appointed as an advisor to the Department of Post, Ministry of Communications and IT (DOP) and a MOU has been signed to that effect here today. This appointment as per the MOU will be in vogue for a period of 24 months during which ICWAI-MARF will constitute a team which will extend resource support of a major modernisation plan of DOP of its cost and management accounting practices.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has formed a committee to guide and support the cooperative sector in streamlining their audit procedures and raise governance levels, President G Ramasamy said today. The ICAI has suggested replicating the successful laws in the sector in Maharashtra and Gujarat, so that the cooperative sector can bring out financial statements in a uniform manner in compliance with appropriate accounting standards, Ramasamy told reporters here.

Auditors have rushed to respond to the Big Four bank clause investigation, which could see the Office of Fair Trading come down hard on lending restrictions linked to audit. RESTRICTIVE BANK clauses that force customers to use Big Four firms are to be investigated, and auditors have scrambled to respond. Martyn Jones, senior audit partner at Deloitte, professed no shock at the announcement, saying his firm welcomes the removal of restrictive agreements.
THE GOVERNMENT has asked regulators to investigate whether banks help to entrench the Big Four auditing firms’ dominance through restrictive lending agreements with companies. The Budget included a call to the Office of Fair Trading to probe whether bank covenants lock out smaller auditors.
Legislation passed Wednesday by Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Cabinet aims to making it easier for foreign professionals to get their qualifications recognized and use their skills in Germany. Germany estimates some 300,000 immigrants already living in the country have no right to work because their professional qualifications or degrees from foreign institutions are not recognized. At the same time, Germany faces a severe shortage of skilled labor, it’s unemployment rate dipped to 7.9 percent last month, one of the lowest in Europe.
