Accounting authorities are considering a proposal that will ask listed companies to disclose the extent of their holdings in risky regions or in volatile financial instruments, on the grounds that stakeholders need to be informed about the impact of such exposures. The proposal, which will have to be prepared by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the nodal accounting body, may make it mandatory for companies to mention the disclosure either in the form of a summary or as an annexure to their financial statements and will also contain a prudent assessment of the challenges, said a person familiar with the development.
The Institute of Company secretaries of India ( ICSI), a premier National Professional body established by Act of Parliament to develop and regulate the Profession of Company Secretaries has launched a new syllabus for CS Foundation Programme today, at New Delhi. The CS Foundation programme consists of four papers viz., Business Environment and Entrepreneurship; Business Management, Ethics and Communication; Business Economics; Fundamentals of Accounting and Auditing.
The revision of syllabus is a process in continnum, to nurture the students in terms of capacity building, knowledge grinding and skills development. The evolving corporate environment and regulatory regime including expansion of globalization and the advancement in technology necessitated the revision of syllabus to make it contemporary. It was in this backdrop that the council of the Institute constituted Syllabus Review Committee with the objective to evaluate the existing syllabus from the perspective of demands and expectations of the corporate, regulators and other stakeholders and re-draw the syllabus to make it more robust, and highly focused to bring it at par with the emerging global trends in professional education.

All of us are familiar with these words, especially the second line is embedded in our minds through our Institute emblem, right from the moment we entered into the CMA profession. The entire stanza from the ancient Upanishad, correctly reflect the DNA of our profession for what it stands for. If we faced our tryst with destiny in the previous month, from this month onwards we have to put the past behind us and march towards the new dawn which is emerging before us. The name of the Institute and the designated letters provided to us in the amended Act, encompass a vast arena to add value to any enterprise involved in consumption of finite resources, much beyond the realms of focus of the past which was on manufacturing. As a CMA brand, we have to go beyond the numbers to provide enlightenment through segmented analysis, sift the grain of reality in value addition, work for an immortal and sustainable future, letting the enterprise live in harmony with the environment and society.
Resolved that by virtue of powers vested under Regulation 205 of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988, the Council of the Institute hereby orders that candidates who register for Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) in the respective Decentralized Office and complete eight months study course, as on the first day of the month in which examination is held would be eligible to appear in the Integrated Professional Competence Examination (IPCE) to be held in May, 2012 examination and onwards
