In a bid to ensure transparency in their functioning, a format for accounting and auditing of income and expenditure of political parties has been submitted to Election Commission by the Institute of Charted Accountants of India (ICAI). The implementation of the uniform format would help in bringing about accountability of political parties, ICAI President G Ramaswamy told reporters here last night.
This note is issued by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to bring out the differences between the IFRSs1 as applicable on 1st April, 2011 and the corresponding Indian Accounting Standards (Ind ASs) placed by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), Government of India, on its website after recommendation of the same by the National Advisory Committee on Accounting Standards (NACAS) and the ICAI.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs had mandated certain class of companies to file their financial statements in XBRL format for the year ended 31st March, 2011. In order to educate members on XBRL and providing hands-on training on the process, XBRL India has planned a chain of workshops to be organized at various locations across the country. During the first phase, workshops will be organized to provide training on XBRL filings in selective big cities using the resources of the Information Technology Training Centres of the Institute. Three leading companies having expertise in XBRL filings will be the knowledge partners for this initiative. This training will help members to understand XBRL, which is emerging as the most popular reporting language across the world.
All the members of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants who are interested in applying for ICAI Membership under the terms of the MoU executed between ICAI and CICA, can apply in the prescribed format after 25th July 2011. The expected date of 1st examination being organized by ICAI for CICA members is January 2012.

In order to mitigate the hardship being faced by the students in registering for Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC), the Council at its 306th Meeting held from 7-9th June, 2011 decided that candidates who register for Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) in the respective Decentralized Office on or before 16th August, 2011 would be eligible to appear in the Integrated Professional Competence Examination (IPCE) to be held in May, 2012.
On a review of the syllabus for the Final Course, the Council has decided to exclude the following topics from the Final Examination to be held in November, 2011 and thereafter:- Paper 1 Financial Reporting – Inflation Accounting
