Accounting regulator Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has allowed Indian students of chartered accountancy to undergo their mandatory three-year training programme outside India. This means that even ICAI members working with a local firm outside India would be entitled to train chartered accountancy students. Earlier, CA students had to undertake the training programme within India. This also posed a problem for students settled abroad.
Accounting regulator ICAI said on Wednesday it would give auditors of Price Waterhouse in the Satyam scam a chance to present their side before passing any order against them. “I told my office to take permission of the court because I want Director, Discipline, to begin proceedings against them (S Gopalakrishnan and Srinivas Talluri). Unless I listen to them, I cannot pass the order against them… either send them to us or a llow us to hear them while in custody,” ICAI President Mr Uttam Prakash Agarwal said.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has revised its internal audit standards to strengthen internal audit practices in the country. The current revision, approved by the ICAI council last week, addresses issues such as effects of laws and regulations in conducting internal audit, responsibility of management for compliance with laws and regulations, responsibility of internal auditor and internal audit procedures.

The Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) has registered a formal complaint with the accounting regulator – the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) – against the government-appointe d auditor for claiming that its flagship company, Reliance Communications (RCom), had allegedly under-reported revenues and evaded licence fees during 2006-08.
The Council of the Institute at its 242nd meeting held in April, 2004 had decided that there shall be a cut off date for condonation of cases for empanelment purposes as on 1st January and the cases received beyond the cut off date will not be considered for condonation.
