Trouble seems to be brewing between the apex accounting body of chartered accountants, the Indian Chartered Accountants Institute (ICAI) and the Institute of Costs and Works accountants of India (ICWAI). The ICAI has declared an open war against the proposal of name change of ICWAI to Institute of Costs and Management Accountants of India (ICMAI).

The chances of 1.6 lakh chartered accountants in the country being employed in companies and organisations across the world will soon be brighter with India going in for Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) with many nations. Having already worked out MRAs with Australia and the UK, India is in talks for MRAs with Singapore, Ireland, Canada, Japan, the Netherlands and with some West Asian and Asian countries, Corporate Affairs Ministry officials said. After the US, India is the country with the maximum number of CAs.
Members who enrolled as Associate members from 01st September, 2009 to 28th February, 2010 would be eligible to receive their membership certificate in person at the Convocation. However in case of Eastern Region, it would be from November, 2009 to February, 2010.
The results of the latest CA Final Examination (May, 2010) and Common Proficiency Test-Paper Pencil Mode (June, 2010) are out. Overall, the results have been a mixed bag. While the results of CA Final Examination are disappointing, the results for CPT are satisfying. Nevertheless, we heartily congratulate all those who have passed the examinations. Mahindra Satyam may end up paying a huge fee for restatement of its book of accounts that were allegedly fudged by its former Chairman Mr B. Ramalinga Raju. Indications are that the Hyderabad-based company will shell out close to Rs 60 crore by September when the accounts are expected to be restated.
