The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has today released a Pre-consultation Paper on “Allocation of Spectrum in 2G band in 22 Service Areas by auction” for comments of the stakeholders.The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in its Judgment dated 2nd February 2012 in the writ petitions no 423/2010 and 10/2010, has directed TRAI to make fresh recommendations for grant of licence and allocation of spectrum in 2G band in 22 Service Areas by auction, as was done for allocation of spectrum in 3G band.

The Central Statistical Office released the quick estimates of national income, consumption expenditure, saving and capital formation for 2010-11 today. Savings and investment data for 2010-11 are new and all other data are revisions to earlier releases. GDP at factor cost at constant (2004-05) prices (real GDP) grew by 8.4 per cent in 2010-11. This growth was at the same level of 8.4 per cent in 2009-10. (As per earlier data real GDP growth was 8.5 per cent and 8.0 per cent in 2010-11 and 2009-10). Demand side GDP at constant market prices grew by 9.6 per cent in 2010-11 over a level of growth of 8.2 per cent in 2009-10.

The government is trying to take up the issue of Indonesia proposing a tax of exports of coal at bilateral level, Coal Secretary Alok Perti said on Saturday. We have taken up the issues of export tax and restrictions in certain quality of coal by the Indonesian government with the Ministry of External Affairs and Finance Ministry, Perti said on the sidelines of the Fourth Asian Mining Congress and International Exhibition in Kolkata on Saturday.

TRAI today exempted the machine to machine and person to machine messages from the limit of 200 SMS per day per SIM. All the provisions of “The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010” issued by TRAI on 1.12.2010 have come into force from 27th September 2011. As per the provisions of such regulations, no Access Provider shall permit sending of more than two hundred SMS per day per SIM.

He said that due to current uncertainty in global economy as euro zone crisis is still unresolved and volatility in international commodity prices especially fuel etc, it may be difficult to contain the fiscal deficit at 4.6 percent as targeted during the last budget.
