Notification No. 24/2014-Income Tax S.O.997(E). – In exercise of the powers conferred by section 295 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 (43 of 1961), the Central Board of Direct Taxes hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Income-tax Rules, 1962, namely:- 1. (1) These rules may be called the Income-tax (4th Amendment) Rules, 2014.

Please note that from A.Y. 2012-13 E-filing has been made compulsory for the person who is an individual, or a Hindu Undivided Family, if his or its total income, or the total income in respect of which he is or it is assessable under the Act during the previous year, exceeds Rs 10 lakh for assessment year 2012-13 onwards.

As per the notification, individuals having taxable income exceeding Rs. 10 lakh and, domestic and expatriate resident individuals with assets located overseas have to mandatorily file their returns through the electronic mode.
ITR 1 Who cannot use this Return Form? This Return Form can not be used by an individual whose total income for the assessment year 2012-13 includes, (a) Income from more than one house property; or (b) Income from Winnings from lottery or income from Race horses; or
The Income Tax (Sixth Amendment) Rules, 2011 are notified with effect from 1 July 2011 to provide that, a firm required to furnish the return of income in Form ITR-5, or an individual or Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) required to furnish the return of income in Form ITR-4 and to whom provisions of section 44AB of the Act are applicable, shall furnish the return of income electronically under the digital signature, with effect from AY 2011-12.
Notification No. 37/2011 – Income Tax [F. No. 149/68/2011-So (Tpl)], Dated 1-7-2011 Income-Tax (Sixth Amendment) Rules, 2011 – Amendment in Rule 12 – In the Income-tax Rules, 1962 in rule 12, in sub-rule (3), in the proviso, for clauses (a) and (aa) the following clause shall be substituted, namely :—(a) a firm required to furnish the return in Form ITR-5 or an individual or Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) required to furnish the return in Form ITR-4 and to whom provisions of section 44AB are applicable, shall furnish the return for assessment year 2011-12 and subsequent assessment years in the manner specified in clause (ii);
