The Thirtieth PPPAC meeting, chaired by Finance Secretary, met on January 6, 2010 and granted approval to 4 projects of Ministry of Shipping. These projects are in 3 States. The estimated project cost of the approved projects is Rs. 4120.29 crore. Since its constitution in January 2006, PPPAC has granted approval to 141 projects, with an estimated project cost of Rs.148,807.56 crore. These include National Highways (hundred and twenty-two projects), Ports (fifteen projects), Airports (two projects), Tourism Infrastructure (one project) and Railways (one project).
The Committee on Comprehensive Regulation for Credit Rating Agencies (CRAs), set up by the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance under the Chairmanship of Dr. K.P. Krishnan, Joint Secretary (Capital Markets) with representatives from all the financial sector regulators, has felt that prima facie there is no immediate concern about the operations and activities of CRAs in India even in the context of the recent financial crisis.

Over 100 countries have now adopted or permitted IFRS or have based their local Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) on the principles of IFRS.
On 22 January 2010, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) issued a press release setting out the roadmap for International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) convergence in India. The roadmap requires IFRS to be made applicable in a phased manner. This is an historic step that will elevate Indian entities and their finance and accounting professionals to much greater heights. The publication of the roadmap was eagerly awaited by those who have been saying that the convergence to IFRS in India is a matter of when and how” and not “if.”
The Bombay High Court has disposed of Golden Tobacco Company’s appeal against a judgment of the Company Law Board (CLB) on January 19, 2009, which stayed resolutions passed by the company’s board. The court on Friday asked the CLB to pass a judgment on the matter by February 2. The Golden Tobacco board had sought to sell or jointly develop some of its land banks in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Guntur.

Last week the equities markets in US and Asian economies went for a vacation of free fall. We saw Indian browsers and other Asian markets went for a profit booking followed with US markets.
INCLUSIVE GROWTH is the word which is often heard and understood less by majority. I will not get into complex explanations of the above word meaning. In simple words Inclusive Growth by its very definition implies an equitable allocation of resources with benefits accruing to every section of society.
The higher the promoter stake in a company the more faith he has in the business. That is how the general belief goes. The same obviously holds true for the reverse as well. And this (lower promoter stake) is definitely something investors would not like.
