In exercise of the powers conferred by section 42 of the Maharashtra Value Added Tax Act, 2002 (Mah. IX of 2005) the Government of Maharashtra, hereby amends with effect from the 1st April 2010 the Government Notification, Finance Department No. VAT-1505/CR- 105/Taxation- l, dated the 1st June 2005, as follows, namely
In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-entry (6) of entry 101 of Schedule C appended to the Maharashtra Value Added Tax Act, 2002 (Mah. IX of 2005), the Government of Maharashtra, hereby, amends with effect from the 1st April 2010, the Government Notification, Finance Department, No. VAT.1505/CR- 120/Taxation- 1, dated the 1st June 2005, as follows, namely

BJP today said it would take legal action, if the state government fails to implement a cabinet decision to impose entertainment tax on the Indian Premier League(IPL) matches here. Finance minister Sunil Tatkare’s recent announcement that there will be no entertainment tax on the IPL matches, has evoked a sharp reaction from the main opposition.
The State Government, may from time to time issue notification and notify class or classes of the dealer who shall be required to make the said payment electronically. Further, State Government may specify the period from which electronic payment is to be made mandatory.
Background: Procedure for filing on-line application for the CST declarations had been introduced on 2nd February 2009. Facility of on-line application is available for all the periods starting froml-4-2008 onwards. Applications for the declarations, pertaining to the periods prior to 1-4-2008, were required to apply manually (on CD).
GST is a tax on goods and services with comprehensive and continuous chain of set-off benefits from the producer’s / service provider’s point up to the retailer’s level i.e. up to the last level in the chain. It is essentially a tax only on value addition at each stage. The whole structure is devised in such a way that only the final consumer should bear the tax.
VAT rate of 4% proposed to be increased to 5% on all goods except declared goods. VAT rate of 12.50% proposed to be increased to 13.50%. VAT rate of 12.50 % on tobacco products proposed to be increased to 15%.
The Chief Minister (Finance Minister) presented the State Budget for the Year 2010-11 on Tuesday 09th March 2010 in the State assembly for the second time in his second tenure. There was not much for the trade and industry in the budget except some changes in the rate structure and the much awaited simplification of the quarterly return.
