The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs has issued Notification No. 18/2026–Customs (N.T.) dated 5 February 2026, amending the long-standing tariff value notification issued under Section 14(2) of the Customs Act, 1962. By substituting Tables 1, 2 and 3 of the principal notification, the amendment re-notifies tariff values for key imported commodities including edible oils, precious metals, brass scrap and areca nuts. The notification specifies tariff values for crude and refined palm oil, palmolein, crude soybean oil and brass scrap, while separately prescribing benchmark tariff values for gold and silver imported under specified exemption entries as well as for other eligible forms of these precious metals. It also reiterates the tariff value applicable to areca nuts. Importantly, the notification clarifies that the revised tables largely retain existing tariff values, indicating no numerical change, but legally refresh and continue the valuation framework. The amendments take effect from 6 February 2026, ensuring continuity and certainty in customs valuation for affected imports administered by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs.
