Based upon credible information of tax evasion and large scale financial irregularities committed by a group based at Chennai and Tiruchirappalli, the Investigation Wing of the Income Tax Department at Chennai has been conducting investigation. The Finance (No.2) Act, 2014 had amended the Income-tax Act to put in place a special taxation regime in respect of business trusts. The business trust as defined in section 2(13A) of the Income-tax Act before amendment by the Act, included a Real Estate investment Trust (REIT) and an Infrastructure Investment Trust(InviT) which is registered under regulations framed by Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in this regard.
Notification No. 4/2015 – Income Tax Section 197A of the Income tax Act provides for no deduction in certain case by submitting a declaration using Form 15G/15H as laid down in Rule 29C of the Income tax Rules. The manner of filing such declaration and the particulars have been laid down in Rule 29C of the Income tax Rules.
