Govt. notifies CSR Rules wef 01.04.2014 – Companies to Spend 2% of Profit . (1) These rules may be called the Companies (Corporate Social Responsibility Policy) Rules, 2014. (2) They shall come into force on the 1st day of April, 2014.
In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (3) of section 1 of the Companies Act, 2013 (18 of 2013), the Central Government hereby appoints the 1st day of April , 2014 as the date on which the provisions of section 135 and schedule VII of the said Act shall come into force.
The following important new activities have been included in Schedule VII: (a) Promoting preventive health care and sanitation and making available safe drinking water;(b) Setting up homes and hostels for women and orphans; setting up old age homes, day care centres and such other facilities for senior citizens and measures for reducing inequalities faced by socially and economically backward groups; (c) Ensuring ecological balance, protection of flora and fauna, animal welfare, agro-forestry, conservation of natural resources and maintaining quality of soil, air and water;
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) also called corporate conscience, corporate citizenship, social performance, or sustainable business is a form of corporate self-regulation integrated into a business model.
Indian employees posted to overseas countries continue to contribute towards the social security system in India. Additionally they are also compelled to make the social security contributions in the host countries. Further most of the foreign countries do not allow exportability of their social security benefits. Accordingly on completion of the term of contract, such Indian workers generally do not get any benefit from the social security contributions paid abroad.
Salman Khurshid, Minister of Corporate Affairs has said that there will be provision of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the Companies Bill. In an interview to media, Khurshid said that CSR provision in the Bill will be guiding in nature.
