The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Piramal Chambers, Mumbai for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs. 5 lakhs from the Complainant. According to reports the public service official is identified as M Jhagran who was holding the highest public service office since last couple of years.
The Government of India and the Government of Japan signed here today a Protocol for amending the existing Convention for the avoidance of double taxation and for the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income. The existing Convention was signed way back in 1989. Central Board of Direct Taxes has simplified the process of online rectification of incorrect TDS details filed in the Income Tax Return. Taxpayers were required to fill in complete details of the entire TDS schedule while applying for rectification on the e-filing portal of the Income-tax Department (www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in). Errors due to incomplete TDS details in rectification applications were leading to delays in processing of such applications thereby causing hardship to the taxpayers.
