Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), through Notification No. 23/2025-Customs (N.T.) dated 8th April 2025, has revised the tariff value notification under the Customs Act, 1962. The update substitutes the existing Tables 1, 2, and 3 of the original Notification No. 36/2001-Customs (N.T.), concerning the fixation of tariff values for specific imported goods. The revised tables confirm that the tariff values for items including edible oils (such as crude palm oil, RBD palm oil, palmolein, and soybean oil), brass scrap, areca nuts, and precious metals (gold and silver in various forms) remain unchanged. For instance, crude palm oil continues at USD 1158 per metric tonne, brass scrap at USD 5698 per metric tonne, areca nuts at USD 8140 per metric tonne, gold at USD 984 per 10 grams, and silver at USD 983 per kilogram. These rates are applicable where certain customs notification benefits are availed. The notification will be effective from 9th April 2025. The revised notification aims to maintain continuity in valuation for customs purposes and aligns with the existing structure under Section 14(2) of the Customs Act.
