10 driving training schools with an estimated cost of Rs. 140 crores are proposed to be set up during the 11th Five year plan under a new comprehensive scheme of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways. So far, sanction has been accorded by the Ministry for setting up of 6 such institutes in states namely Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Haryana. One more Institute of driving training and research for Tamil Nadu has also been approved. The Ministry is also in process of sanctioning 3 more institutes in the current financial year.

The Reserve Bank of India today released its ‘Quarterly Statistics on Deposits and Credit of Scheduled Commercial Banks, December 2010’. The publication contains data relating to deposits and credit of scheduled commercial banks including regional rural banks (RRBs) as on last Friday of December 2010 (December 31, 2010). The data are based on Basic Statistical Return (BSR)-7 giving branch wise data, received from all scheduled commercial banks (including RRBs).

The government today vide circular no. Circular No.142/11/2011 – ST dated 18th May 2011, said that SEZ unit and developers would require the sanction of Unit Approval Committee for availing benefits of service tax refund. Besides, developers and units would also have to furnish original invoices for claiming benefits, the Department of Revenue said in a circular.
