Application for life membership of CSBF has to be submitted in the prescribed Form-A (available on the website of the Institute i.e. www.icsi.edu) and should be accompanied by Demand Draft or Cheque (payable at par) for Rs. 5,000/- drawn in favour of “Company Secretaries Benevolent Fund” payable at New Delhi and the same can be deposited in the offices of any of the Regional Councils located at Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai. Union Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee has said that National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) should deploy new technology, innovate and create financially viable models that can take forward the process of financial inclusion. He said that the primary expectation of the nation from banks, including NABARD, in the next decade is to eradicate financial exclusion. He was addressing the Meeting of the Board of Directors of NABARD on its 29th Foundation Day, here today. NABARD is observing the 30th year of its existence as the ‘Year of Change’.

Manager of UCO Bank and seven others sentenced in a corruption case

The Special Judge for CBI Cases has convicted Shri R.Shivakumar, the then Manager, UCO Bank, Davangere Branch (Karnataka) and 7 others for causing loss of Rs.85.20 lakhs to the UCO Bank. All the accused persons were sentenced to undergo Simple Imprisonment for one year with a fine of Rs.1,65,000/-.

PPPAC Approves PPP Projects Worth Rs. 9773.85 Crores

The Forty-fourth PPPAC meeting, chaired by Secretary (Economic Affairs), Ministry of Finance met on June 20, 2011 and granted approval to 6 proposals of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. These proposals are in five States. The list of proposal is given below. The estimated project cost of the approved proposal is Rs, 9773.85 crore. Since its constitution in January 2006, PPPAC has granted approval to 226 proposals, with an estimated project cost of `224464.51 crore. These include National Highways (hundred and seventy eight proposals), Ports (Twenty two proposals), Airports (two proposals), Housing (seventeen proposals) Tourism Infrastructure (one proposal) Railways (one proposal) and Sports Stadia (five proposals).

Income Tax Dept looks into Videocon-Datacom deal tax implications

After Swan and Unitech Wireless, the Income Tax Department is looking into the tax implications of a deal between Datacom solutions and the Videocon Group after the former was allotted 2G licences in 21 circles for Rs 1,507 crore in 2008. In a complex structure, Videocon Telecommunications was originally incorporated as Datacom Solutions, a group company of Himachal Futuristic Corporation Limited (HFCL).

RBI fines 48 banks for violation of KYC, AML norms in six months

At a time when the government is grappling with the black money menace, the RBI has penalised as many as 48 small banks in just six months, for lapses in implementing customer identification norms and various other violations. In the first six months of 2011, the apex bank has slapped penalties on 48 erring banks , mostly co-operative, as compared to just 15 such actions during 2010. The apex bank has so far slapped penalties between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh on 48 banks during January-June period, according to official data.

IT Commissioner, CA held for accepting bribe

A top Income Tax officer and his chartered accountant aide were arrested by CBI on the charge of accepting bribe of Rs 2.20 lakh from a software engineer for showing an official favour. The accused, R P Meena, commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) and his aide U P Pai were arrested last night for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 2.20 lakh from the complainant working in a private firm, said joint director of CBI, Rishiraj Singh.

80,000 companies in Northern India are 'defaulters' – MCA

Asserting that Companies that have not filed annual returns and balance sheet to Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) for past five years have been put on notice, a senior official of MCA today said there were 80,000 such companies in Northern India.

Now e-ticketing through SMS

Now railway passengers can get their e-tickets on their cell phones instead of normal print-outs. Named as ‘m-ticket’, the mobile phone-based ticket booking system envisages a passenger to book his train ticket through mobile phones and carry the display ticket, sent to his cell phone through an SMS.
