The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) has informed that at present some of the insurance companies resort to online sale of insurance products through their websites/portals in addition to sale through the conventional distribution channels. However there is no proposal from any insurer for sale of their entire policies on online mode.
The Central Para-Military Forces (CPMF) have sought VAT exemption on canteen sales. Chairman, Welfare And Rehabilitation Board (WARB) has written to the Chief Ministers of all the States and to the Union Territories for seeking exemption of Value Added Tax (VAT) to Central Police Canteen (CPC).
Currently there is no overarching legislation governing public procurement by the Central Government and Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). The General Financial Rules, 2005 govern procurements made by the Central Government. Some Ministries/ Departments have specific procedures/ Manuals to supplement these Rules. Procurements by CPSEs are governed by their own Manuals/ Procedures.
Government today urged industries to give workers’ permanent employment instead of contracts. Speaking at a function after distributing National Safety Awards in New Delhi today, the Labour and Employment Minister Mr. Mallikarjun also called for extending social security benefits to these workers.

Taxpayers’ Lounge set up by Income Tax Department at India International Trade Fair 2011 from 14-27 November, 2011 has been adjudged First for Excellence in Display in the category Government Departments by India Trade promotion Organization (ITPO). The Taxpayers’ Lounge, inaugurated by Chairman, CBDT, on 15th November 2011, was conceptualized by the Directorate of Income Tax (PR,PP&OL). The Directorate also supervised its actual implementation as well as functioning throughout the duration of the Trade Fair.

Union Minister of Corporate Affairs Dr. M. Veerappa Moily today informed the Rajya Sabha that some instances of violations have come to the notice of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) which is examining the same. ICAI is itself competent to decide on these violations without reffering to the Central Government. However, no specific firm-wise violations by multinational firms (stating exactly which sections have been violated by which firm) have been brought to the notice of the Government.
The pension on fixed rates is provided to the employees retiring under the Provident Fund (PF) scheme. The Central Government had constituted an Expert Committee for reviewing the Employees Pension Scheme, 1995 entirely including revision of Pension. The Expert Committee submitted its report to the Central Government on 5th August, 2010 and the recommendations of the Committee were placed before the Central Board of Trustees, Employees’ Provident Fund [CBT (EPF)] for consideration on 15th September, 2010.
