`Self-Assessment’ has been introduced in Customs vide Finance Act, 2011. Further, it has been made mandatory for importers and exporters to file declarations electronically. These changes necessitated a re-look at the extant regulations / forms. Accordingly, draft ‘Bill of Entry (Electronic Declaration) Regulations, 2011’ and draft ‘Shipping Bill (Electronic Declaration) Regulations, 2011’ have been prepared by CBEC and are attached herewith as Annexure – ‘X’ & ‘Y’ respectively.
Six years after a senior income tax assistant was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 500, a special CBI court on Wednesday sentenced him to one year’s rigorous imprisonment. Vijay Karekar was arrested by the CBI on October 17, 2005, on charges of accepting the bribe from a person, an income tax assessee, for clearing his tax refund order.
The Cost Accounting Standards Board Secretariat has prepared a revised Guidance Note on CAS-4. It has been decided to expose the same for the public comments. The proposed Exposure Draft may be modified in light of comments received before being issued in the final form.

The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) published today proposals to define investment entities as a separate type of entity that would be exempt from the accounting requirements in IFRS 10 Consolidated Financial Statements.
As the income of BCCI was entirely exempt from tax under section 12A of the Income Tax Act 1961, the question of disclosing low earnings to avoid paying taxes did not arise. Gross receipt disclosed by BCCI in its tax returns for the assessment years 2007-08 to 2010-11, are Rs. 651.82 crore, Rs. 1,000.40 crore, Rs.1.387.02 crore and Rs. 1,666.84 crore respectively IPL is a part of BCCI and has no separate legal status.
The Reserve Bank of India has been conducting Inflation Expectations Survey of Households (IESH) on a quarterly basis since September 2005. The 25th round of the Survey with July-September 2011 as the current reference period has been launched today. The Survey seeks qualitative responses from households on price changes (general prices as well as prices of specific product groups) in the next three months as well as in the next one year and quantitative responses on current, three-month ahead and one-year ahead inflation rates. The results of this Survey are being used by Reserve Bank as one of the important inputs to the monetary policy formulation.
The CBI today arrested Income Tax Commissioner Daya Shankar in Mumbai for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs2 lakh from a private company for passing a favourable order in an appeal matter. Daya Shankar, Commissioner IT (Appeals), was arrested this morning from his office in Bandra for demanding and accepting bribe for settling and issuing a favourable order in an appeal matter pending before him, CBI Joint Director (Western Region) Rishiraj Singh told reporters.
Over the last two decades, the Reserve Bank licensed twelve banks in the private sector. This happened in two phases. Ten banks were licensed on the basis of guidelines issued in January 1993. The guidelines were revised in January 2001 based on the experience gained from the functioning of these banks, and fresh applications were invited. The applications received in response to this invitation were vetted by a High Level Advisory Committee constituted by the Reserve Bank, and two more licences were issued.
