Kolkata CA firm fixed ITAT for getting favourable orders passed, CBI Chargsheet against him and ITAT members

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) all set to file chargesheet against a judge of an Income Tax tribunal for colluding to pass favourable orders for a Chartered Accountants firm’s clients. The CBI is said to have collected evidence that a member of the Income Tax Apellate Tribunal (ITAT) colluded with a Kolkata-based firm of chartered accountants SK Tulsiyan & Co.

The Union Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee said that the current year was a challenging one as far as the domestic and the global economy was concerned. The Finance Minister said that the inflation especially the food inflation remained very high during the major part of the year. He said that it is only after tightening of monetary policy over the year to contain demand side inflationary pressures and removal of supply side constraints that we were able to contain the food inflation.

Retirement fund body EPFO may lower the interest rate on deposits to 8.6 per cent for over 4.7 crore subscribers for 2011-12 to match it with the rate of public provident fund (PPF) scheme. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) had provided 9.5 per cent interest rate to its subscribers for 2010-11 after it found Rs 1,731 crore surplus in its books of account.

Audit firm Price Waterhouse has filed a suit against former chairman of Satyam B Ramalinga Raju and others claiming damages of Rs 100 crore for ‘deliberately’ concealing key information that led to the Rs 14,000-crore accounting fraud. A day after Tech Mahindra-acquired Satyam filed a suit against its former Board of Directors, certain employees and Price Waterhouse seeking damages for perpetrating a fraud three years ago, PW officials revealed that they have already filed a similar suit in a Andhra Pradesh court against the software firm on January 7, 2012.

RBI – Complain to Local Police/Cyber Crime Authorities against Fictitious Offers of Money from Abroad

The Reserve Bank of India has today advised members of public to immediately register a complaint with the local police/cyber crime authorities when they receive fictitious offers of money from abroad or if they are victims of such offers. It has also placed, on its website, the list of such nodal agencies with whom the public can register complaints.
