The Official Liquidators have reported that they are facing problems in e-filing of Income Tax Returns in compliance as they are required to mention PAN No. of the person who files the return, representing the company in liquidation. In the Regional Directors Conference held on 16-6-2011 also, the Official Liquidators brought to the notice of the Ministry that they are not able to file Income Tax Returns since the verification part of the report require them to mention their personal PAN Card No. even when they file the Return as a representative assesee of the company (in liquidation). As per the amendments in the income tax rules, coming into effect from July 1, quoting PAN (Permanent Account Number) will be mandatory for any payment of Rs five lakh or more for purchase of bullion or jewellery. High-value purchase of jewellery, among valuables, have often been feared to be a much favoured route for circulation of black money and quoting of PAN would help the tax authorities in tracking such transactions.

Madras High Court has stayed the Registration of Lawyers For Service Tax. The Court has passed an order of interim injunction dated 24.06.2011 restraining the Ministry of Finance from compelling the members of the Petitioner from registering themselves with the service tax authorities and collecting service-tax from them until further orders in response to writ petition filed by The Revenue Bar Association, Madras.
