Madras High Court has stayed the Registration of Lawyers For Service Tax. The Court has passed an order of interim injunction dated 24.06.2011 restraining the Ministry of Finance from compelling the members of the Petitioner from registering themselves with the service tax authorities and collecting service-tax from them until further orders in response to writ petition filed by The Revenue Bar Association, Madras.

JUDGEMENT
Petition Praying that in the circumstances stated therein and in the affidavit filed therewith the High Court will be pleased to grant an interim injunction restraining respondent from in any manner whatsoever, directly or indirectly, giving effect to or acting upon the impugned provision or, requiring the petitioner or its members to register itself/themselves with the service tax authorities or collecting any taxes on the basis of section 65 (105) (zzzzm) read with section 66, of the Finance Act, 1994, (in MP. No.1/2011) pending disposal of the above WP. no. 12922/2011.
Order: This petition coming on for orders upon perusing the petition and the affidavit filed in support thereof and upon hearing the arguments of M/s. V. Ramachandran, Senior Counsel for M/s. Dr. Anita Sumanth, Advocate for the petitioner the court made the following order:-
There shall be an order of interim injunction restraining the respondent from compelling the members of the petitioner Association from registering themselves with the service tax authorities and from collecting service tax from them, until further orders. .
