In order to have uniformity in the practices adopted by different companies, the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has released 10 secretarial standards, recommending the Government to make them mandatory for all companies, a to p official said on Saturday.
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has said that two of its secretarial standards recommendations have been incorporated in the new Companies Bill and it expects more to be considered before finalisation.

Government on Thursday said it has prosecuted over 13,000 companies during the three years ending 2008-09 for not following the provisions of the Companies Act. “As many as 13,437 companies were prosecuted for non-compliance of provisions of the Companies Act, 1956, during the last three years–2006-07 to 2008-09,” Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid told the Lok Sabha.

The circular states that audit envisaged under Regulation 22 of the SEBI (Credit Rating Agencies) Regulations, 1999 shall include an internal audit to be conducted on a half yearly basis by Chartered Accountants, Company Secretaries or Cost and Management Accountants who are in practice and who do not have any conflict of interest with the CRA.
