The contribution of the CBEC towards nation-building, especially as the revenue collecting arm of the government should be appreciated in the correct perspective. He underlined the virtues of courage and commitment in the due discharge of the duties performed by all members of the organisation. He also underscored that the senior officers should lead by example in their conduct and performance to promote integrity and efficiency. The officers and staff should also take the lead in educating members of the trade and public on the virtues & necessity of fair and transparent dealings with the tax administrators.
The Union Finance Minister , Shri Pranab Mukherjee has emphasized on the need to increase trade facilitation in customs . He was addressing the third meeting of the Consultative Committee attached to the Ministry of Finance during inter-session period of Parliament 2011, here yesterday. The subject matter of the meeting was Trade facilitations in customs.

Shri. S.K.Goel (IRS:1975) today took charge as the Chairman, Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC) on 31st October, 2011. He took charge from Shri S.Majumdar who demitted the office today on his superannuation. Shri Goel joined Indian Revenue Service (IRS) (Customs & Central Excise) in the year 1975. He has handled various assignments in the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance all over the country. Prior to his appointment as the Chairman, he has been working as Member (Customs) in CBEC, responsible for formulation of policy concerning administration of Customs law, Customs tariff and procedural matters relating to Customs duties.

It emphasizes the relationship between service provider and service receivers. It is a standardized Services Delivery Excellence Model whose main features are to identify the services provided by the organization, to set norms for each service, to ensure delivery as per norms, to assess quality of delivery on a continuous basis and to proactively redress public grievances.
Any importer or exporter, who contravenes any provision of these regulations or abets such contravention or fails to comply with any provision of these regulations with which it was his duty to comply, shall be liable to a penalty which may extend to fifty thousand rupees.
Circular No. 951/12/2011 -CX, dated the 26th August, 2011 With the approval of the Competent Authority it has been decided to re-designate the officers representing the Department before the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT) with immediate effect. The new designations will be as follows:-
The Revenue Department is trying to locate 9 lakh business entities which have stopped filing service tax returns, with a view to improving collections, meeting Rs 82,000-crore target in 2011-12 and to ascertain whether there is any tax evasion. There are 15 lakh registered service tax payers in the country. According to the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) Chairman SD Majumdar, only six lakh service tax payers are filing returns.
In order to bring excellence by promoting and enhancing the development of professional expertise in Customs administration, suggestions were called from Chief Commissioners and DGs. The Board received a large number of suggestions for bringing excellence in Customs administration. All these suggestions were discussed in full Board Meeting on May 4, 2011 and a number of plans and schemes were approved. One of the approved programs is institution of an annual award for officers and trade to encourage knowledge acquisition and capacity building. The award shall be given at national level as well as at zonal level (both at Chief Commissioner and Director General Level).

No.A-22013/07/201 1-Ad.II Please refer to Board’s Order No.123/2011 dated 22.06.2011 vide which officers in the grade of Deputy/Assistant Commissioner of Customs & Central Excise were transferred in AGT-201 1. In terms of the said Order, all the officers so transferred were to be relieved by their respective controlling officers by 27.06.2011 from their present charge to enable them to join their new place of posting. The Chief Commissioners/Directors General were also requested to send a compliance report by 01.07.2011.
