APPRAISER OF CUSTOMS DEPARTMENT AND HIS WIFE CONVICTED IN A DISPROPORTIONATE ASSETS CASE

The Special Judge, CBI cases, Chennai has sentenced Shri D.Ramani, then Appraiser, Air Customs Department, Chennai to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case. His wife Smt. R. Vijayalakshmi and other person Sh. Adikesavulu were sentenced to undergo one year RI. A total fine of Rs. 2 lakh was imposed on them. The court has also ordered to confiscate the assets of Rs. 1,55,18,048/- which were in the possession of accused.

CBI had registered the case against the accused for possession of huge assets and filed charge sheet against Shri D.Ramani, Appraiser, Air Customs Department, Chennai; his wife Smt. R. Vijayalakshmi and Shri Adikesavulu U/s 109 of IPC and Sec 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act 1988 alleging that Shri D. Ramani, Appraiser acquired assets in his name and in the name of his family members during the period from 01.01.2002 to 06.01.2010 to the tune of Rs.1,64,68,103/- which were disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted them.
