Filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) in offline mode involves submitting a JSON file of the return to the Income Tax Portal.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to file ITR offline:

1. Obtain the ITR form: Visit the official Income Tax Department website (www.incometaxindia.gov.in) and download the ITR form in Excel or Java utility format. Ensure that you download the form for the relevant assessment year.

2. Fill out the ITR form: Open the downloaded ITR form on your computer and fill in the required details. Provide accurate information about your personal details, income, deductions, and tax liability as per the instructions provided with the form.

3. Gather supporting documents: Collect all the necessary supporting documents, such as Form 16, Form 26AS, TDS certificates, and relevant financial statements, that validate the information provided in your ITR.

4. Compute tax liability and pay any outstanding tax: Calculate your tax liability for the financial year using the appropriate tax slabs and deductions. If you have any outstanding tax dues, pay them before filing your return.

5. Validate the form: Verify that all the fields in the ITR form are filled correctly and there are no errors. Review the form thoroughly to ensure accuracy and completeness.

6. Generate JSON file: Once you have filled in all the necessary details, generate an JSON file of the ITR form using the utility provided. Save the JSON file on your computer.

7. Submit the ITR form: Submit the ITR form by uploading the JSON file.

8. E-verify return: You can use methods like Aadhaar OTP, net banking, or electronic verification code (EVC) to complete the verification in just a few clicks.
