अपनी स्वेच्छा से अपनी स्वयं की सम्पति को अपनी मृत्यु के बाद बांटने का सबसे उचित तरीका तो वसीयत ही है जिससे होता यह है कि इंसान अपने जीवन काल में ही अपनी इच्छानुसार यह लिख जाता है कि उसकी मृत्यु के बाद उसकी सम्पति किस तरह से और किसे मिलेगी. वसीयत किसी एक व्यक्ति की मृत्यु के बाद उसके वारिसों के मध्य विवादों को समाप्त करवाने के लिए भी जरुरी है. इसके लिए ना सिर्फ वसीयत होनी चाहिए बल्कि एक स्पष्ट वसीयत होनी चाहिए ताकि किसी व्यक्ति की मृत्यु के बाद उसके वारिसों में किसी भी प्रकार का विवाद नहीं रहे.
