Government is exploring all possible measures to improve the availability of Onion in domestic market. Government has already put a ban on export of Onion. Speedy import is also necessary to boost domestic supply.
Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry vide Notification dated 18th December, 2019 allowed import of Urad upto an annual quota of 04 lakh MT and the same will be allowed only to the Millers/Refiners as per procedure to be notified by Directorate General of Foreign Trade.
As per Trade Notice No.06/2019-20 dated 04.2019, 1.5 lakh MT of Urad has already been allocated. Additional quantity of 2.5 lakh MT of Urad is to be further allocated for import during the fiscal year 2019-20.
Similarly, for exports to Nepal under South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) and SAARC Preferential Trading Arrangement (SAPTA), the Preferential Certificate of Origin shall be applied and issued only from this platform with effect from 18th December 2019.
IEC holders as mentioned in the two Annexures of this Trade Notice are requested to take immediate steps to correct their IEC data before 15 December 2019, failing which these IECs will be suspended by the jurisdictional DGFT Regional Authority (RA).
Importers who have got the quota but do not import the same by the same deadline (31st October for Urad and Moong and 15th November for Toor), proceedings will be initiated against them under FTDR Act.
