The Committee on Comprehensive Regulation for Credit Rating Agencies (CRAs), set up by the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance under the Chairmanship of Dr. K.P. Krishnan, Joint Secretary (Capital Markets) with representatives from all the financial sector regulators, has felt that prima facie there is no immediate concern about the operations and activities of CRAs in India even in the context of the recent financial crisis.
The Government on Friday said there was “near unanimity” among all stakeholders to raise the ceiling of payment on gratuity for private sector employees from Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh and hoped a decision in this regard will be taken before the forthcoming Budget session. “We have already prepared legislation and it remains to be approved by the Cabinet,” Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge said.
The Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises has been implementing a plan scheme of Assistance to Training Institutions , commonly known as the EDI scheme since 1993-94. Reliance Communications (RCOM), India’s second-largest telecom company by subscribers, has asked the communications ministry to reject the special audit on it by Parakh & Co and alleged that the report `was issued for malafide purpose, based on uncorroborated facts and done without any discussions with it (RCOM)’. The telco has also told the Department of Telecom (DoT) that `the entire report was drafted for the purpose on sensationalising irrelevant matters’.
Trade defence measures are available to the domestic industry to counter unfair trade practices followed by exporters of goods from other countries. In case a product is imported into the country at less than its normal value, and it causes injury to the domestic industry, the domestic industry can make an application to Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied duties (DGAD) in the Department of Commerce for imposition of anti-dumping duty.
The government plans to introduce a bill to amend the Companies Act in the budget session of parliament to enable convergence of Indian accounting standards with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). “The ministry will carry out the exercise for necessary amendments in the Companies Act in the forthcoming budget session of parliament,” said a statement from the corporate affairs ministry.
The directive was issued in December in the wake of mounting “indefinitely adjourned” cases, which stood at 150,000 in March 2009. In line with the Orissa government’s commitment to usher a new era of e-governance, the state on Monday introduced hassle-free e-registration of sale and purchase of land through the public private partnership . Inaugurating the e-registration system here at a crowded meeting, chief minister Naveen Patnaik asserted that this move would ensure faster, simpler, accurate system of automation for all the 64 types of deeds in 177 sub-registrar offices as centers”.

Under the revised rates, a land owner would have to pay more stamp duty because his land got more expensive; the developer would raise the sale price of his finished property since his land acquisition cost got higher; and a retail buyer would have to cough up more for property, stamp duty and registration fee.
