Ministry of Finance addressed a query regarding Indian loan defaulters and tax offenders residing abroad. While details on the number of offenders who have taken foreign citizenship or been extradited between 2014-19 and 2019-24 were not available from the Reserve Bank of India, it was noted that the information is not maintained by the RBI. The government confirmed that India has extradition treaties with 48 countries and arrangements with 12 others. Extradition treaties include countries like the USA, UK, Australia, Russia, and France, while arrangements are in place with countries such as Antigua & Barbuda, Italy, and Fiji, with some specific to narcotics-related crimes. Countries like China and some others do not have extradition treaties with India. The query also asked about the time taken for extradition, but this was not provided in the answer.
