Representations have been received in the Board from Trade and Industry Associations requesting to extend the benefit of ACP scheme to the category of status holders like Export Houses, Star Export Houses, Star Trading Houses etc. Requests have also been made to relax the criteria prescribed vide Board’s Circular No.42/2005-Customs dated 24.11.2005 regarding eligibility for grant of ACP status in cases booked in respect of Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax issues so that purely technical cases should not become a disqualification.
The government today said curbs on cotton exports and the Rs 2,500 per tonne duty on the shipments of the natural fibre would go from October 1. “Cotton exports on Open General Licence (OGL) will be allowed from October 1, which means unrestricted and free exports of cotton. (Also) there will be no export tax on cotton,”
DGFT have subsequently issued a Public Notice No.38/2009-2014 dated 3.2.2010 and also a Policy Circular No.22/2009-14 dated 3.2.2010 for extending the validity of Duty Credit Scrips. OC CWG or Prasar Bharti, as the case may be, will apply to Customs for NOC/Permission to amend the import documents viz. IGM and Bill of Lading/Airway Bill to include itself as the importer in place of the contractors/vendors/sub-vendors. This application will be accompanied by a NOC from the importer on record i.e. contractors/vendors/sub-vendors of OC CWG/ PrasarBharti as the case may be.
India will impose a 10 per cent import tax on power equipment for big projects within weeks to help level the playing field between domestic and foreign firms jostling in what may soon be the world’s biggest market. The tax would reverse a policy of zero import duty on equipment for mega projects introduced to meet India’s urgent capacity shortages, said Arun Maira, a member of the government’s Planning Commission who led a committee on equipment imports.
