Income Tax Refund cheque issued by CPC Bangalore Returned undelivered or not been credited due to wrong account info, expired cheque etc?
Now days Assessee who file their Income tax Return online gets their refund cheque issued by CPC Bangalore. Refunds are issued by two modes:-
1. By crediting the refund amount in Assessee’s bank account if the Assessee has correctly mentioned his bank details in Income tax Return Filed by him.
2. By sending Income Tax Refund Cheque if Assessee failed to submit or correctly mention his bank account details in Income tax Return filed by him.
In case of Physical cheques there may be chances that after filing of Income tax Return Assessee has moved to new address and his Income tax Refund cheque issued by CPC Bangalore returned back for non-delivery. There may also be a chance that although address is not changed but Assessee could not receive the refund order as no one was there on the day when cheque was delivered or Refund cheque returned undelivered by the postal department as the house was locked.
Further in case Assessee has applied for ECS but has entered wrong account details or account of which details been entered is closed and ECS to such account been failed.
In such cases one question arises what Assessee should do to request reissue of Refund cheque or how to request Credit of that account in his bank account and how to intimate the change in address?

Select the ‘Request Type’ as ‘New Request’ and Select the ‘Request Category’ as ‘Refund Reissue’. Click ‘Submit’. |

Details such as PAN, Return Type, Assessment Year (A.Y), Acknowledgement No, Communication Reference Number, Reason for Refund Failure and Response are displayed. |
Step 5 |
Click ‘Submit’ hyperlink located under ‘Response’ column. All the prevalidated bank accounts with status validated/validated and EVC enabled will be displayed. |
Step 6 |
Select the bank account to which the tax refund is to be credited and click ‘Continue’. Details such as Bank Account Number, IFSC, Bank Name and Account Type are displayed for the taxpayer to cross verify the same.
Note : If the taxpayer doesnot have any Prevalidated bank accounts, then the taxpayer is directed to Prevalidate bank account Screen. In this screen the tax payer should enter all relevant details of the bank account where he intends receive refund and click on ‘Prevalidate’ button to proceed with the request submission. After this Account is pre-validated by the concerned bank, the bank account will be automatically considered for refund re-issue. This account will now be displayed under Pre-validated bank accounts in the e-Filing portal. In case the prevalidation of account fails, then the same will be communicated to the taxpayer by CPC. The taxpayer is required to resubmit the request for refund re-issue/prevalidation of bank account. |
Step 7 | Click ‘OK’ in popup if the details are correct and the options for e-Verification appears in the dialogue box. Choose the appropriate mode of e-Verification, Generate and enter Electronic Verification Code (EVC)/Aadhaar OTP as applicable to proceed with the request submission.

To view Refund/ Demand Status, please follow the below steps:
Step 1 Login to e-Filing website with User ID, Password, Date of Birth / Date of Incorporation and Captcha.
Step 2 Go to the ‘My Account’ ⇒ Click ‘Service Request’ ⇒ Select the ‘Request Type’ as ‘View Request’ and Select the ‘Request Category’ as ‘Refund Reissue’
Step 3 Click ‘Submit’

Dear Sir, I am a Non resident residing in Singapore past 20 years. I have taken my pan card with Singapore address and all my ITR filed with singapore address as NRI.
Now my tax refund are unable to get credited directly to my bank a/c in India because amount is above 50000 . When asking to reissue by cheque they say can not send as my address is foreign address. I do not have any India address .SO what is the way to get refund. When i Invest in India, they dont ask for India address but for refund why india address. Seems need to file a law suit against Income tax dept for this kind of
senseless approach. even if they send rupee cheque to my singapore address, I have to send it back to India only to my bank for clearing so where is the problem.I asked to send my representative to collect cheque but that also they refuse. so what should I do. can anybody assist and ready to pay cost reasnably.

I received a cheque for my refund of AY14-15 but lost it before i could deposit it in my bank. As the refund amount was higher that Rs.50000 i didn’t get a direct credit in my bank account. As it has been more than three months since i received the cheque, i know that it has expired.
I have now tried to request re-issue of refund but on filling in the details i get the message “There is no refund failure. This may be due to no refund being due or refund being delivered successfully.”
Can you please advise me how can i get another cheque issued for the same.

I had filed the ITR manually for FY 2009-10. A refund is expected for this year. But
checking on Income Tax website does show any refund for this year. I have sent 2-3 E-mails to A.O., whose E-mail address is available through link “Know your Jurisdictional A.O” on IT e-filing website by entering my PAN number. I have received no
reply from A.O. Unfortunately, I can not visit him/her as now I am settled in Bangalore & ITR was filed when I was in Delhi. I have changed my address also to Bangalore address in PAN card & was hoping that files will be moved to Bangalore & new A.O. will be allotted to me in Bangalore. Kindly suggest, how to get the refund?

an oversight or otherwise, despite having on record the fact that the named ‘refundee’ is no more, then, as it appears, applying for and procuring a fresh RO by the LR may be fraught with problem/delay.

For the financial year 2007-2008, the PAN no. is wrongly mentioned on the returned filed duly ack by the Income tax department. There was a refund of amount INR 5300 for the said financial year, please advise what to do on this and whether its possible to do something on this case.

But we failed to receive our refund for the year 2011-12 and 2012-13.We came to know that our refund returned back to Mumbai. The information in your article is incomplete.
Refund cheques upto a certain value only (Rs. 20000/-, if i am not wrong) are deposited in bank accounts- above this value, for some inexplicable reason,are sent by post only even when you have correct bank account details in your ITR. There is no logical explanation for this available.
Also SBI,the agency responsible for refund, gets a certain amount per cheque sent by post. (It is not clear whether SBI decides if the refund is to be directly credited or mailed ,if amount is above a certain limit.)
This procedure also encourages corruption as the postman will often hand over the speedpost envelope only after getting the’bakshish’.

Please let me know how to get refund cheque reissue for the year 2008-09. I had returned the cheque to Mumbai office and requested for fresh cheque. But till now there is no response from department even after visited to office directly to Chennai location. Also provided requisition letter with cancelled cheque for further release of payment.
