On the 11th of April 2024, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) acknowledged the challenges faced by taxpayers in filing their GSTR-1 due to technical glitches. Consequently, GSTN proposed to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) an extension of the deadline for monthly taxpayers until the 12th of April 2024.
The recommendation for extending the deadline stems from the intermittent technical issues experienced by taxpayers while attempting to file their GSTR-1 returns. These issues resulted in a sluggish response on the GST portal, hindering the timely submission of returns. Recognizing the inconvenience caused, GSTN took proactive measures to mitigate the situation by urging CBIC to prolong the filing deadline by one day.
This extension provides relief to taxpayers, allowing them additional time to navigate the technical hurdles and fulfill their compliance obligations without penalties. It also reflects GSTN’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and efficient tax-filing experience for all stakeholders.
