Notification No. 20/2025-Customs, Dated: 27th March, 2025: CBIC amends notification no. 11/2018-Customs dated 02.02.2018 and 11/2021-Customs dated 01.02.2021 to impose a total import duty of 10% on import of Bengal gram (desi chana) (HS 0713 20 20) from 1st April, 2025
Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued Notification No. 20/2025-Customs, dated March 27, 2025, amending prior notifications to impose a total import duty of 10% on Bengal gram (desi chana) under HS code 0713 20 20. Effective from April 1, 2025, this amendment updates Notification No. 11/2018-Customs dated February 2, 2018, and Notification No. 11/2021-Customs dated February 1, 2021. The changes involve the inclusion of the HS code 0713 20 20 in the former notification’s table and replacing the “Nil” duty rate with 10% in the latter notification. Issued under the Customs Act, 1962, and Finance Acts of 2018 and 2021, the decision aims to address public interest concerns, aligning with the government’s fiscal policy objectives.

G.S.R. 202(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962) read with section 124 of the Finance Bill, 2021 (13 of 2021) and section 110 of Finance Act, 2018 (13 of 2018), the Central Government, on being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby further amends the following notifications of the Government of India in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue), specified in column (2) of the Table below, to the extent specified in the corresponding entries in column
(3) of the said Table, namely:-

2. This notification shall come into force from the 1st day of April, 2025.
