“We are setting up a group in the RBI and they will interact with market participants,” Gopinath said at a banking seminar here. A credit default swap is a swap contract in which the buyer of the CDS makes a series of payments to the seller and, in exchange, receives a payoff if a credit instrument goes into default.

The drawback rates prescribed in the said Schedule against tariff items 711301 and 711302 shall apply only to goods exported by airfreight, post parcel or authorised courier through the Custom Houses as specified in para 4A.12 of the Hand Book of Procedures (Vol. I), 2009-14 published vide Public Notice No.1/2009-14 dated 27 th August, 2009 of the Government of India in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, after examination by the Customs Appraiser/Superintendent (Jewellery Expert) to ascertain the quality of gold/silver and the quantity of net content of gold/silver in the gold/silver jewellery. The Free on Board (FOB) value of any consignment through authorised courier shall not exceed rupees twenty lakhs.

British engineers found new way to stop computer viruses in their tracks

When a new virus hits the Internet, there is little that an anti-virus software can do to stop the malware on the very day. But now British engineers have come up with an answer to the problem. Engineers Simon Wiseman and Richard Oak from defence technology company Qinetiq, Worcestershire, have found a way to stop computer viruses in their tracks by intercepting every file that could possibly hide a virus and adding a string of computer code to it that will disable any virus it contains.

IT department to recover 1000 crore from infrastructure development companies

The Income-Tax (I-T) department will recover close to Rs 1,000 crore from infrastructure development companies after a recent tax tribunal order clarified that the exemption available for infrastructure development cannot be extended to contractors or sub-contractors. The order puts an end to the practice of contractors and sub-contractors claiming benefits under section 80 IA of Income-tax Act, which was incorporated to encourage investment in infrastructure projects.

The Ministry of Commerce & Industry has issued an Instruction No. 41 – F.No.C.6/9/2009-SEZ- Dated November, 2009 to all Development Commissioners clarifying that Net Foreign Exchange Earning (NFE) for SEZ units is to be calculated in rupee terms only.In case a unit claims that the NFE is negative due to foreign exchange fluctuations, the Approval Committee may consider the same, on case to case basis, provided the NFE computations are certified by the Authorised Banker of the unit.
