Commerce minister proposed changes in SEZ rules to facilitate easier exit for struggling SEZ developers

The commerce ministry has proposed measures to make it easier for developers to exit special economic zones (SEZs) that have been struggling with a contraction in global demand for goods produced at the tax-free enclaves. Specific provisions for the de-notification of SEZs have been been put up for public comments till Thursday, after which they would be formally notified.

The government looks all set to introduce the new Direct Taxes Code in the forthcoming budget session , a government official said. Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday to discuss the contours of the new code, billed as the major reform of the direct tax structure being undertaken by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in its second tenure.

Rajasthan High Court stayed declaration of results of 21st ICAI council

The Notification of the declaration of results under Rule 36 of the Chartered Accountants (Election to the Council) Rules, 2006 was to be published in the Gazette of India dated 6th January, 2010. While the Notification on the declaration of results of election to the 20th Regional Councils is being notified in the Gazette of India dated 6th January, 2010, however, the notification on the declaration of results in respect of election to the 21st Council is withheld arising out of the Stay granted by the Honourable High Court of Judicature for Rajasthan, Jaipur Bench, Jaipur vide its Orders dated 5.1.2010 in Civil Writ Petitions Nos. 157/2010 and 158/2010.

Consultation on DTC over, new structure may be finalised soon

The government is through with the consultation process on the proposed direct taxes code and the contours of the new tax structure could be finalised soon, a top government official said on Wednesday. The process of consultation is almost complete,” finance secretary Ashok Chawala told reporters on the sidelines of a Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry seminar in New Delhi.

Court adjourned Satyam case hearing to January 20

A local court in Hyderabad adjourned on Wednesday framing of charges against multi-crore Satyam case accused, including IT firm’s former chairman B Ramalinga Raju ,to January 20. The case relating to hearing of framing of charges was pending in the XIV additional chief metropolitan magistrate as defence counsels had urged the court to hand over the documents relating to supplementary charge-sheet after its physical verification with original documents.

Bankers may meet RBI on 14th to discuss relaxation in lending norms

Relaxation in the norms relating to infrastructure lending and 70 per cent loan loss coverage ratio are likely to top the agenda when bankers meet Reserve Bank of India on January 14, ahead of the quarterly policy review. “Banks will press their demand to relax the norms on infrastructure lending. They may also ask for some easing in the guidelines announced for banks to augment their loan loss coverage ratio to 70 per cent,” Indian Banks’ Association chief executive, K Ramakrishnan told PTI in Mumbai.

Various kind of meetings are conducted in a Company as required under the provisions of Companies Act, 1956 and other corporate regulations, and it is also not a difficult issue to deal with the various kinds of meetings too. A new Company may have to conduct a statutory meeting and every company may have conduct Board Meetings, Annual General Body Meeting and Extraordinary General Body Meeting. In order to increase transparency in the financial statements of banks, Reserve Bank of India has from time to time issued circulars to banks requiring disclosures in the ‘Notes to Accounts’ to their Balance Sheet. These instructions were consolidated in the Master Circular No.DBOD.BP.BC.NO.22/21.04.018/2009-10 dated July 1, 2009.

Union Budget may be presented in Lok Sabha on 27th February

After a gap of more than a decade, the union Budget may be presented in the Lok Sabha on Saturday which happens to be February 27. “In view of holidays for three consecutive days from February 26 onwards, we can have it (Budget presentation) on February 27,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal told PTI.
