Government of India has evolved a Scheme named Rajiv Gandhi Adhivakta Prashikshan Yojna (Rajiv Gandhi Advocate’s Training Scheme) to be launched on 27 June, 2011. The Scheme envisages selection of 10 young practicing Advocates from each State every year for being imparted professional training. This initiative is in sync with the Supreme Court directive in the case of State of Maharashtra vs Manubhai Pragaji Vashi (1995) 5 SCC 730 where the Court had observed that continuing and well organised legal education is absolutely essential reckoning the new trends in the world order and to meet the ever-growing challenges.
About 47.5 lakh domestic helps would soon get medical insurance benefits under the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) with the Union Cabinet approving the proposal on Thursday. The scheme, which envisages smart card-based cashless health insurance cover of up to Rs. 30,000 under any empanelled hospital anywhere in the country, was approved by the Cabinet at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

India is likely to allow foreign individuals to invest in mutual funds in the next two weeks but with a cumulative cap of USD 10 billion, an official said today. With the losses of oil firms mounting with each passing day, Oil Minister S Jaipal Reddy today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to push for an early decision on raising diesel and domestic LPG prices. An Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, which decides on revising rates of the sensitive products, has not met since June last year even though crude oil prices have spiralled upward by about 50 per cent.

Ministry of Railways have decided that the Income Certificate issued by Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) of various States and Union Territories will also be accepted for issue of “Izzat’ monthly Season Tickets (MSTs) for the benefit of persons working in unorganized sectors. This provision will be effective from 1st July, 2011. This facility will be in addition to the five kinds of certificates already permitted under the ‘Izzat’ Scheme.

The meeting of the Consultative Committee attached to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology was held here today to discuss the Mail Network Optimization Project of Department of Posts. In his opening remarks Shri Kapil Sibal, Minister for Communications and Information Technology said that Department of Posts decided to revamp mail operations in line with the international best practices and include a project in the 11th Five Year Plan for consolidation and optimization of the existing mail network. The completion of project would result in improved mail related services to the public.
