If your company hasn’t given your Form 16, which gives details of your tax deducted at source (TDS), don’t fret yet. Taxpayers can check online if the tax deducted from the salary has actually gone to the department on a facility set up by the income tax (I-T) department. Also, in the absence of Form 16, a taxpayer can use this facility to get TDS credit details and file returns accordingly.
Taxpayers are advised to verify the tax credits available in 26AS statement before filing the Income Tax Return. It will facilitate faster processing and quick refunds. In order to avoid the TDS mismatch i.e if your claim of TDS is higher than the tax credits available in 26AS statement, please contact the Deductor for filing of the correction TDS statement.

You can now view your Form 26AS (Taxes paid) at ITR e-Filing website, without any additional login. To view the tax statement, Assessees can now login in to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in with their login, and click on ‘My Accounts’ -> ‘View Tax Credit Statement (Form 26AS)’. Here, you should select the ‘assessment year’, confirm your ‘date of birth’ and proceed. It will open the same NSDL website page of PAN ledger account.
Deductee can view TDS certificate (only non-salary TDS certificate i.e. Form 16A) online by logging into Form 26AS. From financial year 2011-12, it is mandatory for companies and banks to issue Form 16A downloaded from TIN Website and issue only such downloaded Form 16A to deductees. The other categories of deductors may also exercise this option for for issuing Form 16A to its deductees.
