Is the Common Income Tax Portal Becoming Uncommon Part I has generated more than 525 shares and more than 60 comments across the nation evidencing the common problems faced with the new portal.

Should we resort back to the old portal ?

Why was the need of switching to the new 2.0 portal ?

Whether the test checks were done before launching the 2.0 portal ?

The above and many more questions are cropping up in the minds of the users of the portal.

 17 More errors identified as and when the portal is used extensively; are listed below:

1. LTCG module, deductions u/s 80TTB and other are not being validated:

The deduction tab is not picking the figures and not calculating the correct amount of taxable income.

Schedule 112A has no provision to allow for entering different ISIN for two companies, there is no provision for merger ratio entry. Assessee’s desiring to file LTCG in merger cases and trying to use grandfathering provisions post 31st January 2018 are unable to do so.

2. Json utility and excel utility

Excel utility is more user friendly, convenient and has been in use since the launch of e-filing since 2008.  Json utility, a newly introduced one should have been given as add on/ optional so that the filers become used to both the utilities slowly and progressively.

3. 26AS not reflecting in the pre-filled ITR form

26AS is reflecting sometimes in the ITR form and sometimes, it is not displayed. 26AS has become a good form to be relied upon and has become a basis for all big ticket transactions to be reflected upon. The same is used as a tool for various MOUs between CBIC, MSME and CBDT.

Form 26AS need to be reflected upon on cent per cent basis in all the pre-filled forms.

4. Mismatch in PAN and Aadhaar:

In India, pan data base and aadhaar data base comes with different spelling mistakes with interchange of names, surnames. The same was acknowledged by the income tax deptt few years back and a window to link pan and aadhaar ignoring the minor spelling mistakes was incorporated, due to which the pan aadhaar linking was made possible across India.

Small spelling mistakes or mentioning of Block on one data base and ignoring of such thing on another data base which should be ignored upon.

If I had given my flat number as F-Block 1100 in one and F-1100 in the other it reports a mismatch. Integration of Aadhaar details into the IT profile is flawed. The UIDAI site is yet to incorporate many newly created districts in its drop down list of districts. For instance the newly created district of Chinglepet in Tamil Nadu does not find a place in the UIDAI drop down list of districts whereas you can put down Chinglepet as your district of residence in your address in the IT portal profile. The two data bases will never match.

5. Right date of birth not reflecting on the income tax site and non-editable:

DOB as appearing in Profile info is correct and in conformity with PAN as well as AADHAR but while attempting to e-file, the pre-fetched personal data is showing wrong DOB which is not editable and which forces not to proceed further.

6. Old Filed ITRs

ITR-1 for A.Y. 2021-22 with all the columns duly filled and submitted after due verification.
Surprisingly, on taking the print of ITR and Acknowledgement, all the figures become zero zero zero. The data of previous portal may not be fetched properly in the new portal 2.0

7. Form 10E

10E filing error erupts as While filling form 10e for FY 2017 18, the respective slab rate is not correct and there is no option to put 2019 20 FY arrear column in the form.

8. Senior citizen rebate eluded:

Senior citizen tax rebate is not being considered while filing the respective ITR form.

9. Partially filled and Save ITR facility:

The ITR form partially filled cannot be save for later stages for later completion and submission.

10. Difference in notified ITR form and online available form:

Physical notified ITR 2 and electronic form is different in case of long term capital gains not covered under other columns. The former allows indexation and the latter says with out indexation.

11. Guidance as to how to achieve 100% profile updation:

There is no guidance as of now, as how to achieve profile updation upto 100%. Portal is asking to get pan corrected which amount to issuance of new pan card while old pancard is also correct only phone and e mail is not showing in old pan.

12. Filed ITR downloading data difference:

Unable to download properly the ITR filed recently. The downloaded copy shows the date of download in place of the actual date of filing; means defective or not yet filed.

13. Auto population of Income items:

Gross salary is not auto populated, though it appears in Form 26AS. Moreover there is no provision of editing/ manually filling gross salary in ITR2, restricting to proceed further.

14. Form 10IE

In personal profile section Landline telephone number is mandatory, As almost all have disconnected their Landline number we have to fill imaginary numbers to proceed further. I had requested to shift to new regime for which form 10 IE is to be filed and acknowledgement is received. This acknowledgement is not getting entered in relevant columns. After compiling entire return in Form 4 same is not getting submitted either with e verification at same time or verification later.

15. Refund Reissue Request:

Refund re-issue request cannot be raised. For example- Following a refund failure for ay 2020-21 in February, unable to raise fund reissue as no refund failure pending.

16. Error in registering as tax deductor and tax collector:

The previously filed tds returns and tds registeration need to be redone. But while registering the tax deductor and collector, the same is not allowing so. The screenshot is attached here with.

17. TDS/ TCS retuns for quarter 4 2020-21 and quarter 1 2021-22:

Tds/ tcs returns are not filed on the income tax portal and have to be deposited in offline mode with the tin-facilitation centres, making it inconvenient in covid times and in digital era.

Its high time that these problems and other problems faced may be addressed soon so that the filing season and compliances can be adhered to smoothly.

    Govt should refund its share (u can understand what it means) to Nandan Nilekani. And opt again the old website with TCS. ALSO fine on Infosys in interest to the Nation.

    The new portal is horrible. It’s not user friendly at all. Log-in itself is complicated with some buttons language.and invisible/ or feeble slots. Could not locate the Form 26 AS as was easily seen in the old version. And I agree most of the above comments. I wonder how the Dept and a prestigious IT firm Infosys brought in such hopeless site. Agreed that we should change for the better. Why the hurry? They should have brought in when it it is properly validated and released at a later date, may be AY 2022-23

    By hook or by crook they launched the system without making any observations of the people of the country,who are the only sufferers. The authority tried to be in good book of the boss and so on 7th June he expressed his joy and happiness through the media. I feel pity for the gentleman. While trying to file my return I faced so many difficulties which I tried to report through phone calls, emails, tweets to the department and at the same time to finance minister nsitharaman. But even after a lapse of one and half months nobody cares to reply. I wish your new system will be continuing unabated without rectifying the glitches and you and your government will be attacked with various viruses to come to an end.

    I am a Sr. Citizen and I agree in toto for all the above feedbacks.. Is there no Penalty clause, in the contract with Infosys ? It is a high time now and the finance ministry should go back to old portal immediately… But I am sure it will never happen….

    I have personally gone through most of the troubles highlighted in your article and the tax payers’ comments.
    For launching any new product, it is a standard practice to test it thoroughly. IT Department is a notable exception.
    I expressed my troubles in Grievance Section of the department, but there is no clear guidance and solutions. I sent mail to the finance ministry also spelling out the troubles encountered by me. But there is no reply or acknowledgement.

    Sir almost all every year the demand is for the release of form and software on 1st April, but this year FM and CBDT released new portal with out any demand by the taxpayers or the professionals, really surprising, an remarkable gift by FM to the tax professional and taxpayers,we all should congradulate for the remarkable gift.

    I am a pensioner getting pension from SBI. I am also trading in listed shares. When I tried to fill ITR2, not able to fill pension. It is also not auto populated from 26AS. One CA told me that Govt. has paid Rs 4700 crore to Infosys for this activity. When Old portal was working perfectly what was the need of new one. what will happen to this private employees whose employer is not having TAN and salary is small amount like 10000- 12000

    As filing I.T.Return correctly is the duty of the assesses, it is no less important that the authorities need to be very particular so that filing is hassle free.
    I being a senior citizen (78) and one having accounting background (CMA) am very much disappointed with the new portal. The redressal must arrive at the earliest. Already the reputation of the authorities is at stake.

    Should revert back to the previous system. Try this new portal from next year after conducting proper testing of it.
    One thing is not understandable that during this period of ‘Mahamaari’ what was the necessity and urgency to bring this portal and that too after spending so much huge amount. Really very sorry state of affairs.
    It is still high time to take a correct decision urgently.

    This is the worst portal. I have waisted lot of टाइम but failed to file the return. Old portal was best, I was submitting ITR for last 10 years.

    Should go back to the old system. New portal not working. Not able to file ITR 2 . PAN of HUF date of birth and verification PAN mismatch. A no of glitches Cannot file as senior citizen. A lot of time has elapsed still the new e filling site is giving problems.

    FILING OF TDS RETURNS IN TIN FACILITATION CENTRES IS AN EXAMPLE OF MOVING BACK TO STONE AGE

    CRUDOS TO THE TECHNOLOGY GIANT WHO GOOFED UF GST AND NOW THE INCOME TAX.

    WHY NOT GIVE THE BUDGET MAKING TO THEM AT A WHOPPING COST AND KEEP CLAIMING GLITCHES SO THAT THE NATION CAN GO TO RUINS

    I am filling income tax return for the first time. Unable to validate Bank account in the new portal, mentioning in one case validity is not possible due to technical problem and ror other account, IFSC link failure. Submitted grievances in the said portal but till date and time no solution.

    Government must restore old Portal till able to resolve issue I really appreciate that tax guru pointed and articulated all the problem and issue ,I am also facing Issue filing return as neither 26 as auto populated nor allowed to edit while earlier Portal both t options were available . In the name of technical glitches it’s problem is continue and worst part is no response for making complain through mail .How can these Infosys guy designed this Portal ??I think government should restore old Portal and either modified same later or still want to launch new one must defer for till all teething problem resolve.

    The new income tax portal is no good. It is horrible especially for ladies who had been filing their ITR on their own without taking the help of anybody. We want the honourable FM to do something for ladies.

    Useless portal. Since 07 Jun 21 I have been trying to open my account. Each time received error message ITD-EXEC2002. What to do. Where I have to report. Help desk number is also not working. Hopeless administration.

    I had file my returns in ITR 1 as a Senior Citizen but had to pay tax as the 80TTB was not getting activated . Hope when they compute they will refund me my payment which I had paid

    1.If the tax payer claims deduction u/s 10(13A) for a part of the FY say 6 months, the new portal does not allow the claim u/s 80GG for the remaining 6 months though the assessee is eligible for the same.
    2. It is better to allow old as well as the new portal for some time parallelly till all the issues are sorted out/settled

    154 RECTIFICATION NOT WORKING. FORM 10A – TRUST REGISTRATION NOT AVAILABLE. ITR FILING ALSO WHEN YOU SELECT A.Y. NEXT IT ASKING FORM NO., AND THE SAME IS NOT OPENING. LOT OF ISSUES LIKE THIS.
    BETTER TO REVERT TO OLD TILL FULLY TEST NEW VERSION.

    While entering Passport number system requires to fill 14 digit number where as Passport no. is of 8 digits only. System does not save the profile until or unless 14 digit number is filled.

    Request FM to restore old portal as new portal is not working. No option to save data.Common man can’t file ITR and has to take services of CA.ITR not getting submitted even when Validation is successful. A large number of issues which are difficult to elaborate. The less said is better.

      As someone pointed out even taxation table for Senior Citizens and Super Senior Citizens are NOT WORKING. They are being charged at regular rate applicable to all.
      Even Sec 80TTB deduction is NOT permitted.

      The complaints are not listened to.

      Help Desk is utterly UNHELPFUL. NOT EVEN an apology.

      I do not know where I will end up as I am already 79.

      Hope FM TAKES COGNISNANCE & RESTORESOLD [PORTAL till this Service Provider completes his experiments with assessees and harasses them to the utmost tolerance level.

      Even CAs are helpless in this situation

    The new portal is useless, cumbersome, and not reflecting any saved data. Every time we have confirm all the schedules. No option of saving data.Pl restore old version before it is too late.Finance Ministry should accept the blunder it made by offering useless site

    Even after filing ITR before submission, same is not saved and every time we login and would like to make changes in any schedule ,we have open all schedules and getting them confirmed again and again. Data is not saved as was available in old portal.Yesterday on trying to submit ITR 4 even after Validation is successful, ITR not getting submitted with error that image not opted for new regime even when new regime has not been opted We are not getting any positive response from any income tax sites nor from any contract numbers which are shifting responsibilities from one number to another. Request to revert back to old pattern.

    Form 10 is not submitted. After otp it says data form has error fix and retry. It does not identify any error basically has no error. When Itr has been submitted it may disallow relief U/89. May kindly intervene.

    We have also come across two glitches in the new portal and I am sure, as we plod through the portal for various different types of compliances/reporting, many more will emerge as has been the common experience:
    1. While trying to file appeal in Form 35, the challan payment details need BSR code to be filled. BSR code starts with 0 and the tab does not recognize 0 if it is at the beginning. Have been trying since last one week but every time, the response comes that “please fill correct 7 digit BSR code” by ignoring the “0” in the beginning of the number that we type.
    2. The Form 35 has facility to part fill and save and then resume from where you left it. Here also, in the link to Income Tax Forms, the tab “resume: appears but which is available on when you click it, the whole blank form appears, needed to be filled up again.

    Interestingly, yesterday came across the RTI reply filed by the CBDT which can be accessed on https://taxguru.in/income-tax/income-tax-cpio-maintains-details-itr-filed.html

    REALLY A VERY SORRY STATE OF AFFAIRS TAKING ALL OF US FOR A ROYAL RIDE WORTH INR 4242 CRORES.

    Unable to download recently filed ITR properly. It shows date of download as date of filing; means not yet filed or defective ITR. Acknowledgment also not able to download. Not sure of filed ITR is in proper form or it is again to be filed later.

    My DoB is different in the new format and is not editable. Carry forward loss is not auto populated in ITR 2 . Downloading problem for offline filling . Salary is not uploaded. No proper guidance for download and editing.

    Tax guru has very explicitly highlighted the pains being suffered by the taxpayers in the much-hyped new uncommon IT Portal. Let the customer friendly old portal be revived for atleast a couple of years and give Infosys 2 more years to correct the glitches in the new portal and regain their credibility which is now decling very fast.

    The portal is correctly now known as uncommon. I have tried 6 to 8 times but success is elusive. Declaration part name of tax payee ,is not fetched from record nor allow to type.The points of the above post are correct and point 9 is 100% right

    It took significant time for old IT filing site users friendly. All features now claimed to be incorporated in new website were already available in old website. Only thing needed was to upgrade that website to incorporate any new features if necessary but by changing it with new one has complicated the process.

    Just making trial to be conversant. 26AS not reflecting in the pre filled data, co-owners of property 50-50 entered system reports ” Error, aggregate is not 100″. Form 16 says 80C savings Rs.150000. Not in the pre filled data. When manually entered , “the amount is more than reported by employer” message. Even a proficient person cannot make the task.
    Certainly the previous version was user friendly.

    Previous format was adequate. Too many option to navigate and making going back and edit being made near impossible has made this site cumbersome. Earlier format with the error identifying tool would have been better. For most of the tax return filers it is an one time exercise once in a year. Becoming conversant with all options and navigation needs a little professional help. I could have been more simpler.

    There was/is no exigency to replace earlier system by rather Raw new system, as is being put to face many problems/glitches.
