Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), under the Ministry of Finance, has issued Notification No. 45/2025 dated 7th May 2025, amending the Income-tax Rules, 1962, with effect from 1st April 2025. Titled the Income-tax (Seventeenth Amendment) Rules, 2025, the notification introduces revised formats for Form ITR-V and Form ITR-Acknowledgement under Appendix II.
The updated Form ITR-V is meant for taxpayers who have filed their income tax returns (ITR-1 to ITR-5 and ITR-7) but have not verified them electronically. It includes fields for personal and filing information along with a verification statement, a designated area for signature, and instructions on how to complete the verification process. Verification can be done electronically using Aadhaar OTP, Net Banking, EVC from a validated bank/demat account, or by sending a signed physical copy to the Centralized Processing Centre in Bengaluru via speed post. Submission within 30 days retains the original e-filing date; otherwise, the submission date is treated as the filing date.
The revised Form ITR-Acknowledgement applies to returns that have been filed and verified. It includes details such as PAN, filing section, income, tax payable or refundable, and tax paid, among others. It also records transmission and verification details, including IP address and verification mode. This form explicitly instructs not to send it to the CPC, Bengaluru.

G.S.R. 294(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by section 139 read with section 295 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 (43 of 1961), the Central Board of Direct Taxes hereby makes the following rules further to amend Income-tax Rules, 1962, namely:-
1. (1) These rules may be called the Income-tax (Seventeenth Amendment) Rules, 2025. (2) They shall be deemed to have come into force on the 1st day of April, 2025.
2. In the Income-tax Rules, 1962, in Appendix II,––
(a) for FORM ITR-V, the following FORM shall be substituted, namely: —

Where ITR data is electronically transmitted but ITR-V is submitted beyond the time-limit of 30 days of transmission of data – in such cases the date of ITR-V submission shall be treated as the date of furnishing the return of income and all consequences of late filing of return under the Act shall follow.”; |
