DO No. 01/News Letter/CH(IC)/2025 Dated: 06th January, 2025

Dear Colleague,

As we welcome 2025, I extend my heartfelt wishes to the CBIC family for a year filled with health, prosperity, and renewed vigour. I pray that we carry forward the momentum of our achievements from the past year and aim even higher in our pursuit of excellence. I welcome the year with the timeless words of Robert Frost, which reflect the spirit of hope and resilience and remind us of the boundless opportunities ahead of us:

“The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep.”

Last week, the Board inaugurated the “Guidance Book for Timely Processing of Pension Papers”, compiled with the efforts of DGHRM and Bhopal Zone. This booklet brings together the procedures, documentation requirements, and timelines essential for ensuring that pension papers are processed without delays. It is our collective responsibility to support retiring officers who have devoted their careers to the department by providing them with their rightful pension benefits promptly and accurately. I urge all officers to familiarize themselves with this guide and implement the best practices it advocates so that our pension processing system becomes a model of upholding the dignity and respect our retirees deserve.

Recently, in a carefully coordinated operation, officers of the DGGI Meerut Zonal Unit unearthed significant evasion of GST by a steel manufacturing unit located at Muzaffarnagar. The firm was engaged in clandestine supply of goods without issuing invoices leading to tax evasion exceeding Rs. 25 crores. During the search proceedings, the Director of the firm attempted to flee by instigating a mob of over 300 workers and labourers who resorted to violence against the officers, including stone pelting. In this critical situation, the search team led by Ms. Shriya Gupta, Deputy Director, DGGI Meerut Zonal Unit, demonstrated exemplary courage and composure despite being locked in the factory premises and facing hostilities from the employees. As the leader of the search team, Shriya’s decisive actions and quick thinking ensured the recovery of crucial evidence and the apprehension of key individuals. Encomium to the team! Needless to mention, investigations in such cases must be conducted swiftly and decisively, as per law, to send a strong message against any attempts to obstruct lawful Government proceedings.

CBIC bade a fond farewell to Sh. Alok Shukla, Special Secretary and Member, on his superannuation in the month of December after a remarkable career dedicated to the Department. His tireless work ethic and unparalleled ability to drive initiatives to successful conclusions have been the hallmark of his long and illustrious career. Ms. Renu Jagdev, Pr. Director General, and Sh. Rajeev Jain, Chief Commissioner, also hung up their boots last month, marking the culmination of their distinguished careers. Dear colleagues, as you step into new phase of your lives, we extend our heartfelt appreciation for your service and wish you abundant health, happiness, and success in all your future endeavours.

Until next week!

Yours sincerely,

(Sanjay Kumar Agarwal)
