WHat is FSSAI Registration/License?

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is the national regulatory body responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of food products in India. FSSAI license is mandatory for all food business operators in the country. It is a 14 digit registration or a license number issued by the FSSAI, which must be displayed on food products and in the premises of the food business.

Consequences of not taking FSSAI Registration/License

1. Legal action: Operating a food business without an FSSAI license is a violation of the law, and the business can be subject to legal action, including fines and penalties.

2. Business closure: The FSSAI has the authority to shut down food businesses that are operating without a valid license.

3. Reputation damage: Not having an FSSAI license can damage a food business’s reputation and make it difficult to attract and retain customers.

4. Inability to sell products: Without an FSSAI license, a food business may not be able to sell its products to certain retailers or distributors.

5. Lack of credibility: FSSAI license is a proof of credibility and quality of food products, without it customers may not trust the food safety and quality of the products.

6. Limited market access: Without an FSSAI license, a food business may not be able to expand its market beyond the local level.

7.Difficulty in obtaining financing: Financial institutions may be hesitant to provide financing to food businesses that do not have an FSSAI license, as it can be seen as a sign of a lack of compliance with food safety regulations.

8. Inability to participate in government schemes: Many government schemes and subsidies are only available to food businesses that have an FSSAI license.

9. Inability to participate in tenders: Many tenders for supplying food products to government or private institutions are only open to food businesses that have an FSSAI license.

10. Difficulty in getting insurance: Some insurance companies may not provide coverage to food businesses that do not have an FSSAI license, which can make it more difficult for the business to protect itself against potential losses.

11. Limited export opportunities: Without an FSSAI license, a food business may not be able to export its products to other countries. This can limit the potential for growth and revenue.

It is always advisable to get FSSAI license as soon as possible, to avoid any penalties, legal actions, and damage to reputation.
