The process of organizing the Tenth ICSI National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance 2010 which was instituted in the year 2001 by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India has commenced. The Award aims to identify corporates which best establish and follow good corporate governance norms in letter and spirit.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Vinayak S. Khanvalkar, President, ICSI, said ICSI’s priority would be to ensure that student services are more effective and efficient. The institute will make endeavour to see that they are appropriately skilled to meet the expectations of corporates.

The PD Committee in its meeting held on 10th June 2010 at Bangalore has approved in principle the “Draft of ICWAI Members’ Handbook-A guide to members in employment and practice”. It was decided by PD Committee to seek feedback/ suggestions from the members by 7th July 2010. After analyzing these suggestions the PD Directorate will incorporate the same before putting up to Council in its meeting to held in July 2010 for final approval before printing.
THE Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has opposed State Bank of India’s (SBI) decision to appoint a single audit firm for its tax audit for the current fiscal, a move which it says could compromise its quality of audit as opposed to the bank’s present practice of getting the work done by multiple firms. The ICAI, which earlier approached SBI’s top management raising its objection on the issue but did not got a favourable response, is now planning to approach the Reserve Bank of India as it fears that the move could see other banks following suit. “

The Institute’s attention was drawn to certain news reports giving the impression that the Institute has mooted a proposal to open doors for MNC audit firms to operate in India.Consequent upon the Satyam scandal coming to light, the Council of ICAI had constituted a High Powered Committee to look into the matter.
This has reference to Circular no. No. Council Affairs/M-626/2010 dated 29th March, 2010 communicating that the Building Committees constituted in the past in Branch, Regional & central levels be dissolved and accordingly all such Committees stood dissolved.
