Apex cost accountants body ICWAI today said it will set up centres for filing returns and tax-related documents electronically. Under an agreement signed with Central Bureau of Excise and Customs (CBEC), the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) will provide facilitation centres across the country for e-filing of returns and documents to the central excise and service tax assesses.
The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) and Central Board of Excise & Customs have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 13th April, 2010 to set up ACES Certified Filing Centres (CFCs) across the country. These CFCs can be set up and operated by the Members of ICWAI, who have valid certificate of practice issued by the ICWAI.
The Council of The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India has approved the release of Exposure Draft Cost Accounting Standards on Cost of Service Cost Centres as recommended by the Cost Accounting Standards Board (CASB), the standard-setting body of the Institute on March 27, 2010.
The Institute of Chartered and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) southern region saw salary remaining at the same levels as last year, despite an economic recovery. Out of the 450 candidates who appeared for the campus placement, only 100 were selected.

The Council of the ICWAI at its 251st Meeting held on 12-13 February 2009 and 258th Meeting held on 14th December 2009 decided as below: Mandatory application of Cost Accounting Standards “RESOLVED THAT the following Cost Accounting Standards shall be mandatory with effect from period commencing on or after 1st April 2010 for being applied for the preparation and certification of General Purpose Cost Accounting Statements.
The internal audit to be conducted on a half-yearly basis by chartered accountants, company secretaries or cost accountants, and will cover all aspects of CRA operations and procedures, including investor grievance redressal mechanism, the regulator said in its circular. The report will have to state the methodology adopted, deficiencies observed and consideration of response of the management on the deficiencies. Besides a summary of operations and of the audit, covering the size of operations, number of transactions audited and the number of instances where violations were observed will also have to be stated.
