It is a general observation in our society that some people are bestowed with Luck factor in life. For example, there is income inequalities prevailing, if we see from economic perspective, some are born with silver spoon in mouth while others are longing for two time meals.
We also notice that there are, for example two graduates, Mr. A and Mr. B, both graduated from same college, same level of education and grades, still Mr. A has got job in a big Corporate or MNC and Mr. B is going through interview phases time and again and has unstable career. Similarly, its quite normal to see people clearing Professional Exams like CA/CMA/CS with comparatively little efforts and other student inspite of doing day night study gets poor marks and wastes substantial years of his early life giving professional exams, and finally end up doing a routine job without a lucrative earning. These types of dichotomy exists in real life situation whether we accept it or not.
If we look closely, we find that “hard work” is the element which is missing between the haves and have-nots and also luck factor is sometimes unfavorable for such people. One more way of looking at it is lack of “smart work” which can make a huge difference. If we replace hard work with smart work, we can save valuable time and energy. Those who are craving for material comforts, luxuries, etc. can’t just sit relying on luck thinking that one day luck will give them all they want, they have to do hard work, smart work, take pains to attain that objective. Nothing is free in this world, we have to pay the price and if your desires are high you just can’t sit back relaxing that luck will do wonders in your life. You have to go out and toil and with dedication you can achieve the objects you have dreamt of. For a hardworking person, rainy season, cold winter and hot summer are no hurdles, as he is determined to get what he wants and he puts his best efforts in all his endeavors. He does not blames his poor upbringings, lack of support from relatives, friends, poor luck and other factors/excuses as he is objectively driven towards his goals passionately. It is rightly said that “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul”
One point here to be emphasized is that suppose by matter of luck, a candidate lands up in a better job or clears a high level exam (if he had coincidently prepared those topics well which were asked in the interview/exams) then he is fortunate to get that entry level position. But after getting the job, the distinguishing factor which will separate him from his other colleagues will be his Performance and not Luck factor. If his superiors give him some work to be completed in a specific deadline, he can’t reply saying that I have not studied Costing subject properly and I am not expert in Standard/Marginal Costing. At this time, luck will not come to rescue, and possibly he will be sacked from the job. Similarly, in practice, if a candidate, is not expert in, for example “search and seizure” topic very well, if a client approaches for work related to that topic, he can’t reply to the client that I don’t have perfect knowledge of that subject. The conclusion is, luck may or may not favor, however we must be well prepared (with hard work, enthusiasm, dedication) to face any challenge that come in our career. It is rightly said that ” There is no shortcut to success”
It is also seen many times that one student prepares exhaustively from a comprehensive book say 1500 pages book and other students refers to some notes of 400 pages which contains only some key points of all chapters just for clearing exam. It is quite evident that the earlier student has in depth knowledge of the subject while other student has just superficial knowledge of the subject. In the long run, the earlier student is well prepared, and is ready for job/practice in a better way than the one who has just crammed the syllabus 1 month prior to the exam. The student who had studied in detail is better equipped to serve the clients and employer. Luck or shortcut can help us in the sort run, while in the long run, its very difficult to cope up with the ever changing corporate and legal scenario in which we work.
Studying short notes, key points is not advisable as our real examination is taken by the clients and stakeholders who test our knowledge and our ability to solve varied problems in practice and accordingly they rely on our work/certification/audit etc. When we meet the expectations of the Institute, Clients and society in general, we are truly “Partner in Nation Building” From above, it is clear that doing hard work is difficult but the fruits are sweet and long lasting.
Conclusion : – Good Luck or Bad luck is an element, which is beyond our control, whether we are conferred with good luck by birth or not that is of no relevance, what matter is how we utilize our present time and resources, skills, knowledge, patience, determination in a manner that we are able to derive maximum benefits and reach towards our goal. In real life, we see that there are many sportsmen in games fail with some small scores/seconds and some students fail with small marginal marks. There is nothing to be disheartened, on the contrary we should again start putting greater efforts from day one to face next challenges. Its sometimes probability also, everyone cannot become number one. But we must be honest in our work and ensure that there is no shortcomings and deficiencies from our side. Healthy Competition should prevail in the wider interests of the nation and society at large. Benefits derived from hard work gives immense satisfaction. While every individual may not be born with silver spoon, we can, through our hard work, ensure that we enjoy the fruits of efforts in a satisfactory way.
