Vanaja N. Sarna

Chairman

DO.No.05/CH(EC)/2018

Dated 2nd February, 2018

Dear Colleagues,

The Swachhata Pakhwada concluded on the 31st January 2018. I am sure all of you must have really celebrated this occasion with lots of activities. At the Board level, we concluded the fortnight with the release of a short film which is a compilation of all the Swachhata activities undertaken by various formations under CBEC. I truly appreciate the effort undertaken by all of you and would expect similar effort in the remaining days of the financial year. This film is available on the department’s Facebook account, Twitter handle and Youtube channel.

I am happy to inform that the Bombay Customs Yatch Club set up in 1980 by Late Shri J Dutta then Collector of Customs Bombay has been revived by Customs Mumbai after ten years and on 26th January 2018, the Customs Cup Regatta was held with 42 yatchs participating and 150 participants including our officers turning up in large numbers. This revival is heartwarming since it rejuvenates the Spirit Of Customs as a Service and reminds us of our glorious past feats like circumnavigating the earth achieved by Mr Gulshan Rai who retired as Joint Commissioner and who received Arjuna Award and Padmashree. In the past our yatch – “Jaicus III”, a 32 feet Vancouver Class yatch made in England has sailed on a good will mission to several countries like Singapore, Seychelles, Muscat, Maldives, etc. This revival opens exciting opportunities for our young officers who can take part in sailing once again.

Tax Dispute Online Tracking System (TDOTS) is an online tracking system for monitoring tax disputes and their resolution. The information manual on accessing and using the TDOTS module is available on the homepage of the DDM website. This module will be available on the DDM website from 5th February, 2018 for uploading of data by the field formations. In the initial phase, data pertaining to cases/ disputes originating in the year 2017 should be uploaded followed by the data for the previous years in a phased manner. This module is developed by DLA in consultation with DDM.

In view of the difficulties faced by trade and transporters in generating e-way bills due to initial technological glitches, it has now been decided to extend the trial phase for generation of e-way bill, both for inter-state and intra- state movement of goods. It shall now be made compulsory from a date to be announced in due course. The relevant notification for the same is being issued.

As you all know, the Hon’ble Finance Minister has presented the Union Budget for the year 2018-19 yesterday. You are all requested to go through the budget documents thoroughly. Any doubt or difficulty may kindly be brought to the notice of the Board at the contact details mentioned in the DO letters on budgetary changes issued by both the Joint Secretaries of Tax Research Unit.

With utmost regret I am to inform of the sad demise of two officers of the department, Smt Komala Choudhary of the 1974 batch and Shri K.S Venkatagiri of the 1977 batch. We had a condolence meeting in the Board and a condolence message has been sent to their families. May God give strength to the bereaved families to tide over this unsurmountable loss.

Three Chief Commissioners namely Shri Devender Mishra, Shri Vinod Kumar and Shri Bijoy Kumar superannuated on 31st January 2018. My best wishes to the officers and their families in their future endeavors.

With warm wishes,

Yours sincerely,

(Vanaja N. Sarna)

Glad to read the newsletter circulated among all officers and staff in CBEC.
Updates on achieve ment and activities in field offices on cleaning activities have been ackd. Demise of two senior level officers and retirement of three CCs mentioned .
Simultaneously ,so many employees, retd and serving had left us,so also retired.
No mention ,at least,in general terms would be a good gesture from head of family of cbec..
