The Central Government has issued a notification, effective August 1, 2025, that clarifies the terms of service for key positions within the Customs and Central Excise Settlement Commission. This notification, under the authority of the Constitution’s article 309, establishes the date on which the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, or Member of the Commission will cease to hold office. This action aligns with the third proviso of rule 7 of the Customs and Central Excise Settlement Commission (Recruitment and Conditions of Service of Chairman, Vice-Chairmen and Members) Rules, 2015. The notification, issued by the Ministry of Finance’s Department of Revenue, formalizes the end of tenure for these officials in accordance with existing regulations.

G.S.R. 518(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to article 309 of the Constitution, the Central Government hereby notifies the 1st August, 2025 as the date from which the Chairman, Vice-Chairman or Member shall cease to hold office as provided in third proviso to rule 7 of the Customs and Central Excise Settlement Commission (Recruitment and Conditions of Service of Chairman, Vice-Chairmen and Members) Rules, 2015.
