In the latest directive from the Government of India’s Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs, significant updates have been announced regarding the notification of Authorized Officers under Section 25 in association with Section 47(5) of the Food Safety Standards (FSS) Act, 2006 and Regulation 13(1) of FSS Import Regulations 2017.

he Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has updated the list of Points of Entries (PoEs) for the import of food. Notably, among the 161 PoEs notified for food, 99 are to be overseen by Customs officials as Authorized Officers (AOs) while the remaining 62 PoEs will be under the supervision of FSSAI officials. The directive further instructs all concerned to sensitize officers under their jurisdiction regarding this matter and supersedes the previous Instruction No. 2/2022-Customs dated 02.02.2020.

Subject: – Notification of Authorised Officers under Section 25 read with Section 47 (5) of Food Safety Standards (FSS) Act, 2006 and Regulation 13 (1) of FSS (Import) Regulation, 2017 -reg

Madam/Sir,

Reference is invited to Instruction No. 2/2022-Customs dated 02.02.2022 regarding authorized officers under Section 25 read with Section 47(5) of Food Safety Standard Act, 2006 and Regulation 13(1) of FSS (Import) Regulation 2017. In this regard, FSSAI has provided updated list of PoEs for import of food (Annexure-1)

2. It is stated that FSSAI has notified Authorised officers at 161 Points of Entries (PoEs) for food, wherein 99 PoEs are to be manned by Customs officials as Authorized officers (AOs) while 62 PoEs are manned by FSSAI officials.

3. It is requested that necessary action may be taken to sensitize officers under your jurisdiction regarding the said matter. The above instruction No. 2/2022-Customs dated 02.02.2020, is modified to that extent.

4. The difficulties, if any, may be brought to the notice of the Board.
