Foreign companies underwriting income not taxable in India: ITAT

Voluntary retirement compensation and chargeability to tax if payment is stretched over a period of years

Benefit in lieu of salary payable to an employee opting for voluntary retirement is exempted from being charged to tax to the extent of Rs. 5 lakhs by reason of section 10(10C); even if the payment is stretched over a period of years, the same would not become chargeable to tax in any subsequent assessment year

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-rule (1) of Rule 3 of the Customs Tariff (Transitional Product Specific Safeguard Duty) Rules, 2002, and in supersession of notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) No.106/2008-Customs (N.T) issued vide G.S.R.No.632 (E) dated the 2nd September, 2008, the Central Government hereby appoints Ms. Praveen Mahajan as the Director General (Specific Safeguard) for the purposes of the said Rules.
